The Easter School holiday sees the start of our new live science show 'Operation Earth'.
Running every day from 24th March until 16th April Operation Earth is an exciting new family show exploring the amazing stories and science of the environment. It is an interactive show suitable for families with children aged 6 -11.
We explore the environmental theme including participation in various activities including finding out what's in the air, what's in the oceans and how collecting pollen from flowers increases biodiversity.
Short videos from real life environmental scientists all help to make this an engaging yet topical show.
And if you visit during the week over the Easter period the 'on campus' Grumpy Mule snack bar and cafe very close to our centre in 'K' Block will be open to provide a range of snacks , including pies, paninis and baps and hot and cold drinks.
Grumpy Mule will be open Monday 26th March— Thursday 29th March from 10am to 3.00pm and Wednesday April 4th to Friday April 6th 10am to 3.00pm and also Monday 9th April until Friday 13th April.
The Operation Earth Programme
Operation Earth is a two-year national programme to engage, inspire and involve families with school-age children across the UK with the amazing stories, science and people of NERC’s world-leading environmental research, highlighting the relevance of contemporary environmental science issues to their daily lives and to society's future.
The Operation Earth programme is directed and project managed by The UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres, in collaboration with NERC researchers and three ASDC members with considerable expertise in engaging the public with environmental science; The Natural History Museum in London, Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and Eden Project in Cornwall. Eleven science centres (including ourselves and nearby Catalyst Centre) will start delivering this exciting programme to families in 2018.
