Hello there! I’m Simon.
I joined the staff team at Techniquest Glyndŵr in 2013 after a long career in community development in southern England and latterly in Flintshire and six years as a Communications Officer for a local sub-regional voluntary sector learning consortium.
Whilst I graduated in 1975 from Southampton University with an Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering (in the days before PCs!) my work since then has not been involved with science or engineering knowledge until I started work at Techniquest Glyndŵr, where a science background is obviously very useful.
I live in Chester with my wife Diana and we live in an energy-efficient “Superhome” which helps to reduce our carbon footprint. Being involved in environmental issues most of my life I work as a volunteer with a number of community groups where I live which all contribute to long term sustainability, whilst my allotment which I cultivate produces lovely fresh and organic fruit and vegetables most of the year round.
My bike is my normal mode of transport and Diana and I are often riding our tandem around the area enjoying the local countryside, as well as the occasional longer trip which has included a ride from Chester to Istanbul and back and the "C2C ride across England from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. I also enjoy listening to (and occasionally dancing to!) a variety of live ‘world music’ and every July sees us heading for the WOMAD festival in Wiltshire and in October to Musicport in Whitby.
