STEM Transition Programme
STEM Transition Programme (from KS2 to KS3)
Techniquest Glyndŵr’s “STEM Transition Programme” started as a 27-month funded project delivering STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) activities to support students as they transition from primary school to secondary school. The project ran from January 2016 to March 2018 and was funded by the National Science Academy in Wales. This funding allowed 100 primary schools and 27 secondary schools in North Wales to access our transition activities at no cost to the school or pupils.
From April 2018, all of the transition activities developed for this project will be available for schools in both Wales and England to book for their pupils. Please see our Education pages for more information on these activities, which can be booked individually or as a whole day event.
1. Lab Skills Days
Labs Skills Days take place at Techniquest Glyndŵr's science discovery centre for upper KS2 pupils. The activities introduce pupils to practicing good laboratory safety, common laboratory hazards, and simple scientific tests using glassware and other laboratory equipment.
2. STEM Enrichment Activities
Three STEM enrichment activities are available for delivery in secondary schools. The activities are designed for upper KS2 / lower KS3 pupils to take part in. By running the activities in secondary schools, it allows primary pupils to prepare for the transition to a new school.
